Fire Wall Penetrations 1 Year, 8 Months ago Karma: 0
Hi All,

Does anyone have a fire wall penetration template / photo for a wide body Back Country with a 0-375 engine. No point in reinventing the wheel and drilling in the wrong locations eh! And any tips for the installation of the carby cables as far as anchor points/bracket fabrication.

Photos would be great.

Thanks in advance

CG,

I don't know if there are any two firewalls the same. It would be hard to find a template.

Several variables that come into play that would eliminate a template. Some would be: different tubes in the fuselage. My is a "V" tube up front and accomidate heel brakes. Yours is a "X" tube up front to accomidate your toe brakes. This will change some of the pass throughs just avoiding the tubes. Some starter cables come out under the floor, mine comes out half way up the firewall. This changes where the soleniod is. Oil coolers. Some are on the rear baffle, mine is mounted on the firewall. This changes where some things can pass through on the firewall.
Fuel injected engines with fuel pumps mounted on the firewall, different brands or styles of gascolators and brackets....the list goes on.

I made a template firewall out of plywood and mounted that on my airplane. This allowed me to locate all the penetrations, and screw a few up..., without drilling my stainless. Then I just layed that over my stainless firewall and marked all the locations to drill.

I can send you some photos just for reference if you would want them. Then you could make small adjustments.

Carb cables is another chapter. Mine are mounted with adel clamps. Works, but still may change em later, don't know yet. Here again, some variables: different engine mounts. Mine is a dynafocal, where yours is a conical. The mounting locations will vary on the mount. Also each mount will allow you just a little different option for clamps, brackets and so on.

I'll send you photos of mine and some others if I can dig them up.

Jay
