Windshield video 1 Year, 8 Months ago

There appears to be a problem with the windshield video in the online manual. I have tried to download it with two different computers and two different sources on different days and I keep getting a fault message telling me to contact the administrator. It would be helpful to have some dimensions even without having the video. How far back from the firewall or how far forward from the instrument panel? Should I expect the windshield to fit or should I expect to do some trimming? It is a complex installation in that there are two metal support strips and the windshield that all together have to fit the wrap around cowl without having stress built into the whole assembly. All of these have to be held together before the first hole is drilled.

The video link for the windshield install is now online. I will have to talk to a few other builder to find the requested measurement.

Once the problem with the video was solved, the dimensions were not required. Everything is basically keyed off the windshield.
I am in the process of fitting the windshield now. So far I have found that the inner strip doesn't lay down very well. It is necessary to use a shrinker at about the halfway points on each side as there is too much material sticking up at the wrong angle to meet the windshield correctly. Fortunately being 5052 aluminum this is relatively easy. Also, the base of the strips has a raised hat shape bent into it. How is this supposed to be fastened to the wrap around without puckering? If it is riveted it will buckle and distort. When the outer strip is screwed to the plate nuts it also will distort or not be tight enough and will tend to loosen with the vibration. Something does not add up here and it is not covered in the video. It seems to me that this ought to be flat without the little hat section.

Hi Mr Sky Waggon,
I too had a headache with the windshield trim but I persevered and did allot of massaging to those strips and finally managed to get them to lay down quite well. One trick that I found was to install the anchor nuts, then fit a long screw to each one individually and then tweak the anchor nuts so as they are roughly parallel to the outside cover strip screw heads. When it came time for the final installation, with the help of a bit of lubrication on the screw threads as there is allot of side loading on these anchor nuts, it all seemed to pull into shape.
But one heads up and it may be too late. If you follow the video step by step you might cut the outside strip too short. Like I did. It is obvious if you look at the video that they had two attempts to get this strip right. Maybe they should include 2 sets of strips in the kit for us. I will try to post some pictures of the finished result.
